Sulfur hexafluoride or sulphur hexafluoride is an inorganic compound with the formula SF₆. It is a colorless, odorless, non-flammable, and non-toxic gas. SF ₆ has an octahedral geometry, consisting of six fluorine atoms attached to a central sulfur atom. It is a hypervalent molecule.    


Application:

1.A new generation of ultra-high voltage insulating dielectric materials. As a good gas insulator, it is widely used for gas insulation of electronic and electrical equipment. Electronic grade high-purity sulfur hexafluoride is an ideal electronic etching agent, widely used in the field of microelectronics technology, and used as a plasma etching and cleaning agent in the manufacture of large integrated circuits such as computer chips and LCD screens. It is used as a fluorine source for the production of fluorine-doped glass in the preparation of optical fibers, and as a dopant for the isolation layer in the manufacture of low-loss high-quality single-mode optical fibers. It can also be used as a doping gas for nitrogen excimer lasers. It is used as a tracer, standard gas or standard mixed gas in meteorology, environmental testing and other departments. It is used as arc extinguishing and large-capacity transformer insulation material in high-voltage switches. It can also be used in particle accelerators and lightning arresters. Taking advantage of its good chemical stability and non-corrosiveness to equipment, it can be used as a refrigerant in the refrigeration industry (operating temperature between -45 and 0°C). Due to its high stopping power for alpha particles, it is also used in radiochemistry. In addition, it is also used as an anti-adsorbent to replace oxygen from coal dust in mines
